Cuban Hot Dogs

If you like Cuban sandwiches, I dare you to try these Cuban hot dogs. Yes; you read that right! I’m talking about hot dogs served with ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard. They’re perfect for lunch on those hot days when we’re lounging by the pool or at the beach. Your whole family will love Cuban hot dogs!

Ingredients

  • 1 large Baguette, quartered and then sliced for sandwiches
  • 4 All Beef Franks
  • 8 slices Swiss Cheese, or enough to cover all sandwiches
  • 1/3 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup Yellow Mustard
  • 1/2 pound sliced Black Forest Ham
  • Kosher Dill Pickle Slices
  • 3 Tbsp Butter, melted and cooled

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Take the quartered baguette pieces and slice them lengthwise to create a pocket for the hot dogs. Be careful not to slice all the way through. Set aside.
  3. Cook the Franks: Place the all-beef franks on the grill and cook until they are nicely charred on all sides. This usually takes about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally.
  4. Combine Mayonnaise and Mustard: In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise and yellow mustard. Spread this mixture on the inside of each quartered piece of baguette.
  5. Assemble the Sandwiches: Place a grilled hot dog inside each baguette. Top with slices of Black Forest ham, followed by a couple of slices of Swiss cheese and a layer of pickle slices.
  6. Grill the Sandwiches: Brush the outside of each sandwich with the melted butter. Place the sandwiches on the grill, and press them down using a heavy skillet or a grill press to flatten them slightly. Grill for about 2-3 minutes per side or until the bread is toasted and the cheese has melted.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the grill, let them rest for a minute, then slice each sandwich in half and serve hot.

Enjoy your Cuban-inspired twist on the classic hot dog, perfect for a savory and satisfying meal with a touch of Caribbean flair!

*Note* You can grill your hot dogs prior to putting on the sandwich, or if using pre-cooked hot dogs, you can forgo the grilling, it’s up to you. The panini press will head up the dogs. We grilled ours first, because we love that grilled flavor.
