Crock Pot Dr. Pepper BBQ Ribs
Crock Pot Dr. Pepper BBQ Ribs are Country Style Pork Ribs, slow cooked in Dr. Pepper, then baked to caramelize the Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce. Only 3 ingredients!
Ingredients:
- 2-3 lbs pork ribs (baby back or spare ribs)
- 1 can (12 oz) Dr. Pepper
- 2 cups BBQ sauce (your choice of brand or homemade)
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp smoked paprika
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Optional: 1 tsp chili powder for a little heat
Instructions:
- Preparation: Clean the ribs by removing the membrane from the back. This can be done by using a knife to gently get under the membrane and then pulling it off. This step is crucial for tender ribs.
- Season the Ribs: In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub this spice mixture all over the ribs ensuring they are well-coated.
- Crock Pot Magic: Pour the can of Dr. Pepper into the bottom of the crock pot. Place the seasoned ribs into the crock pot. It’s okay if they need to be stacked or curled around the pot.
- Cooking: Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until the ribs are tender and cooked through.
- BBQ Sauce Time: About 30 minutes before the ribs are done, gently remove them from the crock pot and discard the Dr. Pepper. Pour the BBQ sauce into the crock pot and stir in a bit of chili powder if desired. Return the ribs to the pot and ensure they’re well-coated in the sauce.
- Final Cooking: Continue to cook the ribs in the BBQ sauce for another 30 minutes to an hour on low, allowing them to soak up all the flavors.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once done, carefully remove the ribs from the crock pot, cut into individual portions, and serve! Drizzle extra BBQ sauce over the top if desired.
Serving Suggestion: These Dr. Pepper BBQ ribs go well with classic side dishes like coleslaw, cornbread, and baked beans. Enjoy your flavorful and tender ribs!
