This elegant Rose Apple Tart is not only a visual delight but also a treat for the taste buds. Featuring thinly sliced apples arranged in a beautiful rose pattern atop a buttery tart crust and sweetened with apricot jam, this dessert is perfect for special occasions or when you want to impress your guests with your culinary skills.
Ingredients:
For the Crust:
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes
- 4-5 tablespoons ice water
For the Filling:
- 4-5 large red apples (such as Honeycrisp or Pink Lady)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons apricot jam, warmed
For Garnish:
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Tart Crust:
- In a food processor, combine flour, salt, and sugar. Pulse to mix.
- Add cold butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, pulsing until the dough just comes together.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and form into a disk. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the Oven and Prep the Tart Pan:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom.
- Press the dough into the pan and trim the edges. Refrigerate while preparing the filling.
- Prepare the Apple Roses:
- Core the apples and slice them very thinly. Leave the skin on for the red color.
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
- Microwave the apple slices for 30-60 seconds to soften them slightly (they should be pliable but not cooked).
- Assemble the Tart:
- Starting from the outer edge of the tart crust, arrange apple slices in a tight spiral pattern, overlapping them to create a rose effect. Continue until the entire crust is filled.
- Brush the warm apricot jam over the apples.
- Bake the Tart:
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- If the edges of the apples start browning too much, cover the tart with aluminum foil.
- Serve:
- Let the tart cool in the pan on a wire rack.
- Before serving, dust with powdered sugar if desired.
- Slice and serve this beautiful Rose Apple Tart, perfect with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
This Rose Apple Tart is a show-stopping dessert that’s as beautiful as it is delicious. The sweet and tender apples in a lovely rose pattern make this tart a perfect centerpiece for any dessert table.
