Marinara-Filled Fried Mozzarella Shot Glasses
When you hear people start yelling, “shots, shots, shots!”, hit them with something a little bit different. These Marinara Filled Mozzarella Shot Glasses will have your whole party asking for more. These edible shot glasses are deep fried to perfection and filled with delicious marinara, making the need for double dipping obsolete.
Ingredients:
For the Mozzarella Shot Glasses:
- 1 lb fresh mozzarella cheese
- Salt, to taste
For the Marinara Sauce:
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped (for garnish)
- Optional: Red pepper flakes, to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinara Sauce:
- In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and sauté until translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes or until fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir well.
- Add the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Let it simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- Once done, remove from heat and allow to cool.
- Form the Mozzarella Shot Glasses:
- Using a shot glass as a mold, press chunks of fresh mozzarella into the glass to form the shape. Ensure the bottom is sealed, and the walls are thick enough to hold the sauce without leaking.
- Carefully remove the mozzarella from the shot glass mold. Place the formed mozzarella glasses on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Lightly sprinkle the inner walls of the mozzarella glasses with a pinch of salt.
- Repeat the process until you’ve used up all the mozzarella.
- Fill and Serve:
- Once the marinara sauce has cooled to room temperature or is slightly warm (you don’t want it too hot, as it could melt the mozzarella), carefully pour the sauce into the mozzarella shot glasses.
- Garnish with fresh chopped basil.
- Serve immediately and watch your guests’ delight at this unique appetizer!
Tips:
- If you’re finding it challenging to mold the mozzarella, you can slightly warm it to make it more pliable. However, avoid overheating as it might become too runny.
- Consider serving alongside other dipping accompaniments like olive tapenade, pesto, or a balsamic reduction to add variety and depth to the tasting experience.
Enjoy the richness of the mozzarella complemented by the tangy, herby marinara sauce in every delightful bite!
