The USDA has announced a significant recall of approximately 20,111 pounds of various frozen raw beef products due to a lapse in import reinspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) upon entry into the United States. Although no illnesses have been reported from the recalled products, the FSIS urges caution.

Details of the Recall

The recalled raw beef items originated from Uruguay around March 17, 2024. The FSIS is particularly concerned that some of these products may still be in the freezers of consumers, distributors, restaurants, retailers, or institutions.

Identifying the Recalled Beef

Consumers and businesses are advised to check their freezers for the recalled products, which are marked with Uruguay establishment number “58” printed inside the Uruguay inspection mark. This marking can be found on both the shipping box and the vacuum-sealed product inside the box. The affected products were distributed to locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington.

Specific Products Recalled

The following products are included in the recall:

In light of a potential safety risk, Kraft Heinz has voluntarily initiated a recall of roughly 83,800 cases of its individually-wrapped Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices distributed to select locations. This proactive measure has been taken to address a temporary malfunction in one of the company’s wrapping machines, which could lead to a thin strip of film adhering to the cheese slice even after the wrapper is taken off. If unconsciously consumed, this could pose a choking hazard and be unpleasant for the consumer.

This recall pertains exclusively to Kraft Singles American processed cheese slices, specifically identified by the provided case/package information. No other variations or dimensions of the product fall under this recall. The impetus for this recall was several consumer reports of discovering plastic stuck to the slices, including six instances where consumers experienced gagging or choking. Fortunately, there have been no reports of significant injuries or health concerns associated with this issue.

Kraft Heinz promptly addressed the malfunction, ensuring that the wrapping machine in question was repaired and all other machinery underwent rigorous inspection. This swift response underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality in its products.

Customers in possession of the affected items are advised against consuming them and are encouraged to return them to the point of purchase for a refund or exchange. For further inquiries, verification of affected products, and to facilitate reimbursement, consumers can reach out to Kraft Heinz Customer Service, available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday, at 1-800-280-8252.

The occurrence of such recalls is not uncommon in the food industry, underscoring the importance of stringent quality control measures. Regular inspections and adherence to food safety standards are integral to preventing contamination and ensuring consumer safety. Kraft Heinz extends its sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused by this recall and remains steadfast in its dedication to upholding the integrity and safety of its products.

This incident serves as a reminder for consumers to remain vigilant and regularly check for recall notices, as companies continue to prioritize the well-being of their customers through quality assurance and proactive measures in the event of any discrepancies.

Products included in the recall include 16 oz. Kraft Singles American Pasteurized Prepared Cheese Product with an individual package UPC of 0 2100061526 1 and a “Best When Used By” date of 10 JAN 24 through 27 JAN 24. Individual packages in this recall will contain an S and 72 in the Manufacturing code.

Check your freezers! Nestlé Prepared Foods has recalled over 700,000 pounds of Hot Pockets that may contain glass and plastic pieces. U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the Pepperoni Pizza Hot Pockets are the cause for concern.

The Hot Pockets covered by the recall are only the “premium pepperoni pizza” variety, which come in a 12-pack in a 54 oz. carton. The boxes in question have a Feb. 2022 expiration date and lot codes 0318544624, 0319544614, 0320544614, and 0321544614 printed on the carton. They also include establishment number “EST. 7721A” inside the USDA mark of inspection toward the bottom of the front of the box (pictured here).

The potentially contaminated product was produced from Nov. 13, 2020 through Nov. 16, 2020 and shipped to retail locations nationwide, but since Hot Pockets have a shelf life of 14 months, the products could very well still be in consumers’ freezers.

You may want to check your pizza stock because of a massive pepperoni and sausage recall due to contamination.

Ezzo Sausage Company, from Columbus, performed a test that confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes, according to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety Inspection Service.

The recall includes 15 ready-to-eat products produced on October 29-30 and November 5. Here you can find the full product list. Ezzo says the products were marked for distribution in Indiana and Ohio.

FSIS says these products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

Nestlé has announced a recall on some of its signature ready-to-bake Toll House Cookie Dough products “due to the potential presence of food-grade rubber pieces”.

The 26 recalled products include, bars, tubs and “chubs” — the packages shaped like tubes — and include Holiday Chocolate Chip Tree Sprinkle, Ultimate Chocolate Chip Lovers, Pinch of Grinch Cookie Dough and Monster Munch varieties.

“This recall is limited only to ready-to-bake refrigerated products below, with batch codes that begin with 9189 through batch codes that begin with 9295,” Nestlé USA said.

The company adds that the four-digit batch code can be found after the “use or freeze by” date and following the number 5753 on the packaging. A full list of impacted batches can be found here.

Nestlé said it has not received any reports of consumers falling ill or becoming injured.
