Homemade Mozzarella Sticks are a delicious and popular appetizer, perfect for parties or as a tasty snack. They are surprisingly easy to make at home. Here’s a simple recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb block mozzarella cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Cut the Cheese:
    • Slice the mozzarella block into sticks approximately 3/4 inch thick and 4 inches long.
  2. Prepare Dipping Stations:
    • In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs with the milk.
    • In a second shallow bowl, place the flour.
    • In a third shallow bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • First, coat each stick in flour and shake off the excess.
    • Then, dip it into the egg mixture.
    • Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring it’s completely coated. For a thicker crust, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Freeze:
    • Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
    • Freeze for at least 2 hours. This step is crucial to prevent the cheese from melting too quickly when fried.
  5. Heat the Oil:
    • In a deep skillet or deep fryer, heat the oil to 365°F (185°C).
  6. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks:
    • Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 1 minute or until golden brown.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the sticks from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the mozzarella sticks hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
