Ingredients:

For the Doughnuts:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet Kool-Aid (any flavor of your choice)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 packet Kool-Aid (same flavor as used in the doughnuts)

For Topping:

  • Sprinkles or additional Kool-Aid powder for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Doughnut Batter:
    • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and Kool-Aid powder.
    • In another bowl, mix together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
    • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick.
  2. Heat the Oil:
    • Fill a deep fryer or large pot with vegetable oil (at least 2 inches deep) and heat to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Fry the Doughnuts:
    • Carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil using a cookie scoop or two spoons.
    • Fry in batches, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and cooked through, about 2-3 minutes.
    • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the Glaze:
    • In a bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of milk, and remaining Kool-Aid powder. Add more milk if needed to achieve a smooth, pourable consistency.
  5. Glaze the Doughnuts:
    • Dip each fried doughnut into the glaze, ensuring it’s well coated.
    • Place on a wire rack to let excess glaze drip off.
  6. Garnish:
    • While the glaze is still wet, sprinkle the doughnuts with sprinkles or a pinch of Kool-Aid powder for an extra pop of flavor and color.
  7. Serve:
    • Serve the Kool-Aid Drop Doughnuts once the glaze has set, and enjoy a burst of county fair nostalgia in every bite!

These Kool-Aid Drop Doughnuts are not only a fun and colorful treat but also a delightful way to reminisce about fun fair days. The tangy, fruity flavor of the Kool-Aid gives these classic doughnuts a unique and tasty twist.
