Breyers Agrees to $8.85M Settlement for Alleged Vanilla Labeling Fraud
Breyers has recently agreed to an $8.85 million settlement in response to a class action lawsuit accusing the brand of misleading labeling on its Natural Vanilla ice cream. The lawsuit, filed against Breyers’ parent company, Unilever, claimed that the ice cream was falsely advertised as being flavored solely with vanilla from vanilla beans, while it allegedly contained other plant-based flavors not derived from vanilla.
Though Breyers has denied any wrongdoing, the company has chosen to settle. As part of this settlement, customers who purchased Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream between April 21, 2016, and August 14, 2024 are eligible to claim up to $8 without proof of purchase or more with receipts. Each product purchased qualifies for $1 per item, and there is no limit on the number of claims if proper proof of purchase is provided.
To receive a settlement payment, claims must be filed by February 19, 2025. Consumers can file claims on the official settlement website, which is set up to streamline the process.
